One hundred and twenty years ago 10 electrical workers representing 286 union members came together in St. Louis Missouri and established the National Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Eight years later it would become the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers when IBEW local 93 (now L.U 586) was organized in Ottawa on December 20th 1899.
Today the IBEW represents over 650,000 electrical workers internationally. Canada (District One) has 88 locals representing 63,676 members. We’ve come along way from our founding in St. Louis. Take a little time to think of how it all began and celebrate our 120th birthday! Still looking good! For a complete history of our great union go to; http://www.ibew.org/IBEW/history/1890_1897.htm
