Action Alert Calgary

Aug 02, 2011General News

It is important that Local 424, actively supports the efforts of all working people who want to organize into unions. By supporting actions such as this, we can build Solidarity and Brotherhood. Through active consistent support, we add to the Solidarity and Brotherhood in other locals and in the community. It’s important we’re all in this together. Please attend UBC Local 2010’s picket and Wednesday’s rally. A link to the location is at the bottom of the Alert.

20 members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners Local 2010 are on strike  at Peri Formwork Systems at 29 Industry Way SE, Calgary, in pursuit of a first contract.

Actions Requested

Come to a rally in support of striking workers – and join them as often as possible on the picket line, which is running 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Rally at 3 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, at the depot at 29 Industry Way S.E. Picket line support is welcome any time until a first contract has been secured.

Workers want job safety and reasonable raises, not a three-year wage freeze

Workers at Peri Formwork Systems voted by 21-1 to join the union, but attempts to get a first contract have been fruitless. Key issues are having a safe workplace, job security and reasonable wage increases. In response, the company offers have included allowing termination without cause and a three-year wage freeze. Peri Formworks is a multinational company and has depots across Canada.

Show the workers they are not alone by joining them on the picket line. Donations of water and fruit would be appreciated.
