Course Description

Members must be Eligible for Training Benefits and in good standing with IBEW 424 to qualify for course reimbursements. Please review the Approved Training Providers prior to scheduling training.  Fall Protection is also offered through EITCA.

FALL PROTECTION

COURSE OBJECTIVE

This program is designed to address the fall safety needs for industrial and commercial workers. Developed in accordance with requirements acceptable to the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA).

The goal of the fall protection program is to ensure that recipients understand fall protection safety principles as they apply to the work environment and how to correctly use fall protection at all times.  Fall Protection is a 3-year qualification. 

  • Apply for reimbursement upon completion of training.  
  • Current Safety Certification must either be: a) Expired OR b) Fall within 90 days of expiry. 
  • Reimbursement is set at a maximum of $200.00 per course, per member.

This Fall Protection course is provided by ACTI at the Electrical Industry Training Centre. 

This is the ACTI National Fall Protection program. It is the government approved  Ontario Working at Heights program and 8 additional provinces (excluding NL) and 3 territories specific legislative  requirements covering applicable OH&S, CSA & ISO standards

On completion of this course you will know:
The Legislative Regulations pertaining to working from heights
How to define Employer and Employee responsibilities
How to differentiate between the types of Fall Protection; Fall Arrest and Fall Restraint
How to identify the components of Fall Protection
How to assess and select anchor points
How to calculate Free Fall, Total Fall and Clearance Required distances
How to care for and maintain Fall Protection equipment and when to remove it from service
How to properly inspect, adjust and fit a body harness
Basic rescue requirements
