Fire Alarm

Fire Alarm training in Edmonton is provided by NAIT and consists of the following courses.

Fire Detection & Alarm Systems Theory ELE82
The first half of the course (approximately 15 hours) will focus on key regulations pertaining to fire alarm systems, including the Alberta Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, Alberta Fire Code and various ULC standards. In the practical, hands-on portion, students will learn to wire a range of systems, from basic systems to addressable multiplex systems.

Prerequisite: You must be a Journeyman or Apprentice Electrician, or an Electrical Technician and have a current edition of the Electrical Code Book.

Fire Detection & Alarm Systems Lab ELE83
Hands-on lab exercises will help you gain practical knowledge of fire alarm systems. This lab course must be completed in conjunction with ELE82 to receive credit towards your Fire Alarm Technician qualification. In a lab setting, students will study the basic operations of conventional and addressable fire alarm systems, learn troubleshooting techniques and gain practical experience in drawing wiring connection diagrams. Students will connect conventional single stage and two-stage systems, and a single stage addressable system.

Note: Two days (12 hours) of lab sessions are required and scheduled at different times throughout the year.

Prerequisite: This course is for students who have successfully completed the on-line course ELE82 Fire Detection and Alarm Systems Theory. Students will be required to write a final exam in ELE83 covering both theory and lab content to meet the requirements for qualification in accordance with the Alberta Fire Code.
